Digital Pioneers
Through the Digital Pioneers project, small organisations can obtain the support necessary to realise innovative projects. They usually concern public information and opinion forming using the Internet. The Knowledgeland Foundation has the responsibility for allocating over a €2 million in subsidies provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Every year, approximately 30 initiatives are being sponsored.
There are already numerous online communities in The Netherlands. These so-called "digital stages" often are dependent on a number of committed volunteers or small organisations, such as societies, charities, clubs and new initiatives. These organisations often have innovative ideas, but insufficient funds and know-how to put these ideas into practice. The Digital Pioneers project helps these people to realise their ideas and make them more sustainable. Every year, several bidding rounds take place. Every round is centred on a theme that is socially relevant to that community.
